Thermal Barriers
Thermal barriers from the Datapaq TB40 Series work in two stages to keep the logger at a safe operating temperature while it travels through processes with temperatures up to 800°C (1472°F). The first stage of thermal protection is a layer of microporous ceramic insulation located inside a rugged stainless-steel case. The second stage is a heat sink that features phase change material, which further slows down the heat transferred to the data logger.
The Datapaq TB49 Series combines years of design experience with advanced materials knowledge to provide maximum protection to your data logger as it passes through the furnace. By using a balanced combination of microporous insulation and phase-change heat sink, the data logger can be kept below its maximum operating temperature – even in the longest processes. The TB49 Series is ideal for the thermal profiling of aluminum and steel products to verify heat treatment processes. It is also commonly used in Temperature Uniformity Survey (TUS) applications up to 1050°C (1922°F).
Software
Every Datapaq Insight™ Software product is designed to convert your raw data into meaningful information that can be acted on. All three software options provide a clear user interface, context sensitive help screens and wizards to assist novice users. The ability to change the language and email results directly from software enables you to share information across the plant and across the world, whether you’re on a computer or mobile device.

Thermal Performance
In most applications, the environmental conditions and process parameters in the furnace – such as temperature, duration and atmosphere – drive thermal barrier selection. Although different data logger configurations and software options are available, these are less critical compared to thermal barrier selection.
Datapaq TB40 Thermal Barriers
Thermal barriers from the Datapaq TB40 Series are limited to a maximum operating temperature of 800°C (1472°F) and are intended for infrequent and less demanding profiling applications. They represent our most economical solution. Typical applications include:
- Mesh belt stress relieving of components and raw material
Ensure components with varying geometry and ruling sections are uniformly treated and do not exceed critical temperature limits - Surveying of batch and conveyorized ovens
During commissioning or start up after maintenance, profiling your furnace can verify proper thermal uniformity, prevent product quality issues and reduce the need for costly reprocessing - Precipitation hardening (aging) and tempering of steel and aluminum
Profiling in process helps ensure that any required parameters are met throughout the furnace and accurately assesses the time for both product surface and core temperatures
Datapaq TB49 Thermal Barriers
Thermal barriers from the Datapaq TB49 Series are limited to a maximum operating temperature of 1050°C (1922°F) and are intended for regular profiling in most applications. This series represents our most popular and diverse solution. Typical applications include:
- Mesh belt annealing and hardening of components and raw material
With the ability to measure higher temperatures than the TB40 Series, these barriers can be used to ensure that core temperatures are met as well as to ensure through hardening and annealing processes satisfy requirements - Measurement of batch and conveyorized carburizing processes
Because case depth and hardness are reliant on accurate atmosphere and component surface temperature control, our floating plate design and exotic material selection make the TB49 Series more resistant to distortion and corrosion - Surveying of batch and conveyorized ovens

| Radio telemetry link
The Datapaq TP6 radio telemetry system utilizes high temperature radio-frequency technology to allow data transmission from the data logger in real time. As the system travels through the process, product and process temperature data can be viewed, analyzed and reported instantaneously. This technology can be applied to monitoring key thermal processes in most industrial heating applications. |
